Julia Nixon, home girl diva and Helen Hayes Award winner has been on the DC music scene for more then 20 years since she performed at  Mr. Henry's in the mid 80's. Julia will be performing again at @ Henry's Upstairs, the recently restored historic music venue. She will be performing with her longtime partner, David Ylvisaker on keys.

Upon first hearing Julia Nixon, you notice people sit up a little taller and smiles begin showing up all over the room. Yes, in this day and age of MTV, VH1, video games and 20-second-commercial attention spans, this lady can stand on a stage and engage her audience with her voice, showmanship, and interpretive skills. Julia Nixon's classically trained voice is as enchanting with a 120-piece orchestra, a jazz trio, or singing on a stool unplugged in the crook of a grand piano. You can't help falling in love with this singer.

Within this women's voice are echoes of pop, rock, jazz, country gospel and blues. This equals a unique performance each time you hear her. Her professionalism and unselfish love of performing creates a show where she gives nothing less than 110%.

"She sings with vocal power and emotional range" Washington Post
"She has a voice that never flags" GQ Magazine
"She squalls up a vocal storm to rival Aretha Franklin" London Times!

This singer/songwriter/playwright/producer is no stranger to the stage. Her accomplishments include but are not limited to:  Replacing Jennifer Holiday in Dreamgirls as "Effie", "B.J." in the National touring company of Smokey Joe's CafĂ©, "Caroline" in Caroline or Change at Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C. (Helen Hayes Award for Best Female lead in a musical).
Julia had a #1 dance hit in the UK "Breakin' Down" Polygram London (co-written with longtime partner David Ylvisaker), "Keepin' on Track" (Indie) was considered for a Grammy as best pop female vocalist.

Julia toured with Richard Pryor and the Blackbirds, has opened for Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Vince Gill, Kenny G, Tina Turner and Herbie Hancock. Julia and Company headlined at the infamous Mr. Henry' Super Club in Washington, D.C. for 13 years, filling the house every weekend. Julia has performed at the White House, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall. Julia's personal appearances have spanned Tokyo Paris, London, New York, Switzerland, Africa and Russia.

ALL SALES ARE FINAL & NON REFUNDABLE, unless the venue cancels the performance due to natural disaster or other unforeseeable circumstance.
