variations on an (original) theme: a suite in eight movements - RHINOFEST 2017
variations on an (original) theme: a suite in eight movements is a performance piece that tells the story of a violinists struggles with depression and suicide. Told through spoken word and live musical performance, the narrative also contains fragments and asides about other artists e.g. Ludwig van Beethoven, Yehudi Menuhin, and Yuna Kim - and their journeys through grief and the challenges of public life as a performer. The soundscape that acts as a backdrop to the story will include as its centerpiece, a live performance of J.S. Bachs monumental work for solo violin, his Chaconne in d minor, from Partita No. 2, BWV 1004.
