De-Mystifying your home computer -- Rudy Xavier
Are you intimidated by your home PC computer? Can you comparison shop when you need to upgrade? Do words like teraflops, SSD-drives, and Megabits (or bytes) make your head hurt? Do you know why your CPU clock speed matters? If you would like answers to these questions and the other questions you have always wanted answered about this subject, this is a course for you! This is your chance to hear an expert tell you how your computer hardware and software work, presented in language untechies can understand.
You will come away with a big picture overview of how your home PC computer works, how to select hardware and software that fits your needs, and how to react technically and emotionally when your computer turns on you. Note: this is a PC-only course; Macs are different. Rudy Xavier has Masters degrees in computer science and psychology, and has worked in industry as a programmer, web-builder, and data processing project manager. He has taught at Georgia Tech, used his computational linguistics skills to enhance scientific and medical software, and has, for fun, built more than a hundred desktop computers from scratch.
