Book: All That I Am
Anna Funder's award-winning novel All That I Am is a masterful and exhilarating exploration of bravery and betrayal. It details the risks and sacrifices people make for their beliefs and of heroism hidden in the most unexpected places. When Hitler is elected chancellor of Germany in 1933, a tight-knit group of friends and lovers become hunted outlaws and are forced to flee to London. The friends risk betrayal and deceit as they dedicate themselves to a dangerous mission: informing the British government of the very real Nazi threat to which it remains willfully and woefully blind. A reviewer from The Daily Telegraph described the book as "A bravura piece of storytelling perfectly plotted, exactingly described. . . Funder has taken the raw material of truth and from it created a novel of real power and beauty."
Before turning to writing full-time in the late 1990s, Anna Funder worked as an international lawyer for the Australian Government focusing on human rights, constitutional law, and treaty negotiation. Her first book Stasiland won the BBC Four Samuel Johnson Prize. Anna holds a bachelor's of arts, a law degree, a master's of arts and a doctorate in creative arts. She grew up in Melbourne and Paris, speaks fluent French and German and lives Brooklyn with her husband and three children.
