Beats of Life, Rhythms of Heritage: Kathak by Prashant Shah
Kathak aficionados and newcomers to this dance form have an exciting opportunity to see one of the outstanding male dancers of this genre perform on Sunday, October 14, 2012, when the award-winning Prashant Shah comes to town.
Prashant, a senior disciple of Padma Bhushan Smt. Kumudini Lakhia, is the first recipient of the SANGEET NATAK AKADEMI YUVA PURASKAR (national award) established by the President of India in the name of Ustaad Bismillah Khan. Now a United States resident with his own dance company, Prashant has performed in over forty countries. He is regularly commissioned by international choreographers for his expertise in incorporating Kathak technique in styles such as Hip Hop, Belly Dancing, Flamenco, Bharata Natyam, and Modern dance. Prashant explores the rich technique of Kathak, connecting it to other dance forms of the world to develop a new language of creativity.
This performance is the fifth in a seven-part series, "Beats of Life, Rhythms of Heritage" presented by the Indo-American Heritage Museum and by the Natya Dance Theatre, with generous funding from the Chicago Community Trust. For more information please see www.iahmuseum.org and www.natya.com
