-------
The 18-voice womens a cappella ensemble Sound Circle will perform A Concert About Now on Saturday and Sunday, January 28 and 29, at Unity Columbine, 8900 Arapahoe Rd., Boulder. Both performances are at 5:30 p.m.
Honestly, this is a strange and uneasy time to be performing a concert. I know I am in very good company: soul-nourished by the march, yet overwhelmed by the intensity and feeling physically ill as I witness the first days of the new administration.
A Concert About Now is about the project of finding solid ground within ourselves at this time.
We'll sing this strong mantra by Audre Lorde in Joan Szymko's piece, She Who Makes Her Meaning Clear: "When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid."
We'll sing music by Enya, Melanie deMore, Holly Near, James Taylor, Ysaye Barnwell, and Cris Williamson; words by Rumi and Wendell Berry; songs of the civil rights movement. We'll offer works of pastiche and improvisation created by the singers.
"What matters is now: how we live, work and create together in this very moment, relying on and cultivating our best human qualities, creating meaning by how we are together in the present moment.--Margaret Wheatley in So Far From Home
Please join us.
