Citizen Journalism: Mechanics of Pre-Production
The International Examiner is teaming up with 21 Progress and industry expert Matt Chan to present a workshop series on citizen journalism.
"Mechanics of Pre-Production" is the third workshop in this series, and will focus on how to plan for video production, including building a shot list and considering editing tools. Travis Quezon, Editor in Chief of the International Examiner, will lead a discussion on interviewing skills, and Enrique Cerna from KCTS 9 will speak about researching and approaching writing.

Workshop Description:
These days, it's easy to create and share videos. With social media and free video streaming sites, we can share our stories, opinions, and voices with more people than ever before.
You have a great story idea and are eager to move on to shooting. But, rushing forward without a plan usually doesn't end well. Decisions you make at the beginning affect what you'll get in your finished product, so knowing what you need to do prior to filming is crucial. What pre-production considerations should citizen journalists address before turning on the camera?
This workshop covers both technical and aesthetic elements of pre-production to help participants create stronger, more compelling videos. Participants will learn about building storylines, constructing shot lists, planning audio, thinking about media management, and selecting editing software. We will also discuss interviewing skills, booking interviews, conducting pre-interviews, researching, and approaching writing.
This workshop will be interactive, including opportunities to practice interviewing. Participants are highly encouraged to ask questions about your projects to our expert presenters.
Food will be provided.
