Berkeley Choro San Jose Home Concert
Berkeley Choro Ensemble returns to San Jose for our third home concert, featuring Jane Lenoir, flute, Harvey Wainapel, clarinet, Nando Duarte, 7-string Brazilian guitar, Brian Rice, percussion and pandeiro. We will be performing a preview of our upcoming CD, featuring choros composed by our clarinetist, Harvey Wainapel, and other friends from Brazil. Please join us in this charming vintage Bungalow in San Jose's Rose Garden neighborhood for an evening of Brazilian music. This style of music is a synthesis of European classical music popular in Brazil in the 19th Century and Afro Brazilian rhythm. Today, Brazilian Choro music is experiencing a new wave of popularity, with Paquito D'Rivera, Yo Yo Ma and other well-known jazz and classical musicians celebrating Brazilian music as part of the repertoire.
Berkeley Choro Ensemble, formed in 2010, has organized 3 festivals of Brazilian music at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, and is currently recording our first CD. Many thanks for the SF Friends of Chamber Music Musical Grant Program for awarding us a grant to help fund this project.
