Dan Johnson & His Expert Sidemen
If you have been wondering what is meant by "Americana" music, come to this show and find out. Dan Johnson and his Expert Sidemen are the Capital District's most prominent Americana band, serving as hosts of Valentine's weekly Americana revue. Their forthcoming debut album, Sleep on the Way, showcases the band's rich sonic palette, which includes shades of vintage jazz, bluegrass, honky-tonk, western swing, alt country, anti-folk and more. Pedal steel, accordion, mandolin, banjo, bass, drums and guitars are all stirred together in a spicy musical gumbo.
Dan's songs weave tales of woe and then rip them up, allude to myth and legend, repeat idle conversation and whispered gossip. His Expert Sidemen are Pete Murphy (bass), Max Figarsky (drums), Roger Noyes (pedal steel), Brian Elsenbeck (accordion) and Evan Gavry (electric guitar).
