Adentro (Within)
Award-winning playwright, writer and theater critic, Abel Gonzalez Melo is one of the most promising voices in current Cuban theater. As part of its Caribbean Voices Project, Aguijon Theater is proud to present the world premiere of his play Adentro (Within).
At first glance, an urban police thriller with a murder investigation at its core, Adentro's layers unfold, through a series of confessions, into an unflinching look at many of Cuba's current social failures and triumphs. Winner of the 2005 Jose Jacinto Milanes award for playwriting, the play explores issues of homophobia and police brutality and the devastating effects of the massive exodus of Cuban citizens to foreign lands.
