Folk Landscapes
Composers can find inspiration from various sources, but perhaps the most influential are the cultural traditions of their homeland. This January join the Lakes Area Music Festival for the second of four Winter Series concerts. Hear the virtuosic fiddling in Franz Joseph Haydn's "Gypsy" trio; compare 3 Pieces by Brazilian composer Cesar Guerra-Peixe with the jazzy 3 Preludes of George Gershwin; and enjoy traditional Transylvanian dances arranged by Béla Bartók. The second half of the program features Antonín Dvoák's most well-known chamber music work which features six musical "thoughts" alternating between melancholy an exuberant.
This concert is the second in a four concert series at the Woman's Club of Minneapolis, performed by Artists in Residence, the Lakes Area Music Festival, and is free and open to the public. Three performers will be features. Francesca Anderegg will perform on violin; she is a graduate of Harvard and the Juilliard School, a McKnight Fellowship for the Performing Arts awardee, and currently serves on faculty at St. Olaf College. Cellist and LAMF Artistic Director Scott Lykins is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and a member of the South Dakota Symphony. In addition to leading the organization he maintains an active freelance schedule based in the Twin Cities. Pianist Tanya Gabrielian will return to the Lakes Area for a third time for this concert. Currently living in New York City, she has captivated audiences worldwide with her gripping performances and was hailed by the London Times as a pianist of powerful physical and imaginative muscle. She has performed recitals and been featured as soloist with orchestras nationwide and with high acclaim.
