Popcorn/I Wish We Were Dancers/The Legend/Beirut My Heart/Papa Hedi
Popcorn

Beginning with an Omani family's traditional Hol Hol celebration of their child's first birthday, award winning filmmaker Maitham al Musawi takes us on a vibrant and mysterious journey into the future, each stage of life from boy to adolescent to old man connected by symbolism.

I Wish We Were Dancers

Confined to a wheelchair from multiple sclerosis, a girl creates a vivid dream world in which she vibrantly dances as a ballerina. This lyrical Kuwaiti short is an official selection of the Dubai International Film Festival 2011 and Gulf Film Festival 2012.

The Legend

Set in the depths of the ocean, a mythical mermaid falls victim to her own curiosity and breaks the ultimate law of the sea. She faces Poseidon and is sentenced to her demise after the fulfillment of one last dying wish. On a final journey to the golden Arabian deserts, her only saving grace from her fatal destiny is made possible by a young Bedouin hero and challenging Poseidon's fervent belief that humans cannot fulfill their dreams. Gulf Film Festival, 3D Film & Music Festival Los Angeles selections, Best Animation Zanzibar Film Festival 2012.

Beirut My Heart

A woman follows her heart to Beirut and is left seeking answers after the man she loves disappears unexplained. She decides to stay and while mourning, a mysterious poet guides her to peace. She tells her story, an ode to lost love  and comfort found in the consolations of Beirut's charms.

Papa Hedi

Filmmaker Claire Belhassine was in her late 20s when she discovered that her grandfather was the Frank Sinatra of the Arab World, Hedi Jouini. From the theme song of a popular Tunisian soap opera to pop singers' cover songs, including international superstar Shakira, Jouini's music still resonates twenty years after his death. Behind the usual story of siblings fighting over their inheritance lies the powerful dynamic of men's and women's roles in 1930's Tunis and the sad but often funny story of Papa Hedi's divided family - separated across continents, competing to define their father's legacy. North America Premiere.
