CHAI Collaborative Ensemble Presents Beethoven, Malmquist, and Songs from the UK
CHAI Collaborative Ensemble will present a program of music by Ludwig van Beethoven, a world premiere of a new work for cello and piano by Eric Malmquist, and art songs by English composers on Friday January 27, 2017, 7pm, at the Davin Youngs Voice Studio (Studio 632) in the Fine Arts Building, 410 S Michigan Avenue.
This program features Ludwig van Beethovens Septet in Eb Major, Op. 20, the world premiere of Chicago composer Eric Malmquists Sonata for Cello and Piano, as well as a selection of art songs by Benjamin Britten, Charles Villiers Stanford, Gerald Finzi, and Ivor Gurney.
Performing artists include Alex Ellsworth, cello; Andy Frickle, horn; Andrew Hesse, cello; Talar Khosdeghian, piano; Andrew Marlin, bassoon; Kit Polen, double bass; Nora Shaffer, clarinet; Danielle Simandl, violin; and Ryan Townsend Strand, tenor.
In the spirit of fostering cross-pollination among artists, CHAI Collaborative Ensemble seeks to explore the interrelationship between music and the written word. CHAI Collaborative Ensemble also acknowledges that part of our job as artists is to awaken others, both to the beauty of this world and also to the responsibility we have to leave our world a better place than we first found it. We see our art form as a means of bringing people together and of being engaged in the communities in which we perform. In future seasons, the musicians of CHAI plan to present programs in partnership with various community organizations to encourage dialogue about the issues we as a society currently face.
