Choral Arts Ensemble 2012-13 Season Tickets
"With and Without Words", 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21; St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Portland. With and Without Words features new and familiar choral literature that began as well-known instrumental works. The performances will include Whitacre's Alleluia (originally October,) Barber's Agnus Dei (Adagio for Strings,) Holst's I Vow to Thee My Country (Jupiter Hymn,) and Sibelius' This is My Song (Finlandia). The ensemble will do away with words completely in Chorale Without Words by Portland's own Tomas Svoboda, and in movements from Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words, featuring accompanist Jennifer Creek Hughes.
"Ceremony of Carols", 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16; First Unitarian Church of Portland. CAE celebrates the holidays with seasonal music featuring Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols, Tomas Luis de Victoria's motet, O Magnum Mysterium, and his rarely heard, complete O Magnum Mysterium Mass setting based on the motet. Also on the program will be Francis Poulenc's Four Christmas Motets and traditional holiday carols.
"From Broadway to the Met: Great Choruses from Musical Theatre & Opera", 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24; St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Portland. Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the births of both Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi, the CAE will perform famous choruses from their operas as well as operas from Puccini and others. Then the ensemble will journey across town to give their regards to the Broadway stage with well-known choruses from favorite musicals.
"Light out of Shadow", with the University of Portland Orchestra, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, All Saints Parish, Portland; and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, Buckley Center Auditorium, University of Portland. CAE and the University of Portland Orchestra will embark on a powerful, musical journey from darkness to light. The concert will featuring Morten Lauridsen's dramatic Lux Aeterna, for chorus and orchestra, and Beethoven's epic journey from dark to light; his iconic Symphony No. 5.
Note: Season Ticket holder must call in advance to reserve a seat at either Saturday or Sunday's performance for each of the four concert programs.
