This unique interactive experience is an exploration of what "cultural
competency" means in today's world, from the perspective of how
cultural influences impact our perceptions, particularly in behavioral
health-related businesses. A range of culturally relevant topics will be
addressed that directly impact the worldview and ethical behavior of
professionals. Several group activities will be interactive, and
experiential activities will be used to examine and discuss into these
topics in relevant and meaningful ways.

In addition, we will be discussing the information in DSM-5 which
encourages cultural awareness in clinical settings and provides the
tools to do so. For this reason, participants are encouraged to bring a
copy of the DSM-5 if available.

Objectives:
ô To describe "culture" by exploring the range of topics and
areas that can and should be addressed, particularly in
behavioral health settings.
ô Identify one's own cultural perspective, and describe how this
perspective influences behavior
ô Utilize skills and tools available in DSM-5 that can be
implemented working with clients through the lens of culture,
including during clinical screening and assessments
ô Evaluate possible ethical dilemmas involving cultural issues in
the workplace and address how these can be resolved from a
practical standpoint using professional codes of ethics
