Star Embroidery de Schtaan
It's a simple form of decorating, but it is unique to Pennsylvania. You'll take wool yarn, a needle, a tin pattern, and a square of wool and create a fluffy pattern.
In a time when folk art is often machine made, the uniquely PA Dutch art of Star Embroidery de Schtaan is disappearing. Shirley Sacks, of Fleetwood, PA, has made it her mission to save it. Her class on Star Embroidery de Schtaan during the Kutztown Folk Festival was featured in the Reading Eagle on July 7, 2016.
