"WHITE GUY ON THE BUS" by Bruce Graham
Ray, a wealthy white business executive, rides the bus through a struggling black neighborhood and past the state penitentiary every Saturday. For many on the bus it doesn't make sense. Why would a rich, white, businessman give up his life of luxury to ride on a bus? On his weekly ride Ray befriends Shatique, a young African-American woman putting herself through school and striving to raise a son on her own. For a while their friendship offers more than either of them expected, but when Ray finally reveals why he's riding the bus the ties that bind them gradually unravel and explode in a complex web of race, privilege, and revenge.
Post election, there isn't a play in America today that more perfectly reflects the times in which we live. Brilliant, bold, and compelling "WHITE GUY ON THE BUS" is everything theatre should be!! BE THERE!
Chicago Sun Times -- Recommended "Graham says things that many of other playwrights would quickly self-censor"
Chicago Stage Standard - Highly Recommended "While this is not a play full of grandeur technical elements, it is all about the story which also leaves you in deep thought and reflection. It also delivers a powerful message which is raw, edgy, and challenges the mind".
