Ancient Airs & Dances with Jamie Laval
Jamie Laval, internationally-acclaimed Celtic violinist, will perform a solo concert featuring selections from his brand new album Murmurs and Drones on Saturday, June 25 at 7:30 pm at the Gaston County Museum. Laval is heralded as One of North Americas finest practitioners of traditional Scottish music (San Jose Mercury News) and The next Alasdair Fraser (Press and Post). "One of the hottest fiddlers out there" (Asheville Citizen-Times), Laval creates rapt audiences with his passionate performances of traditional music of Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Quebec and Appalachia. Jamie's unique approach to Celtic fiddle music blends the simplicity of an ancient art form with stunning virtuosity and contemporary flair that resonates with families, youth, seniors, and devotees of ethnic, jazz, and classical music. Now a resident of Asheville, North Carolina, Jamie began his music career studying classical music at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. In 2002 Laval won the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship and subsequently embarked on a full time touring career which today includes over 120 engagements per year throughout the U.S. and Scotland. Laval has appeared on the NBC Today Show, collaborated on Dave Mathews' album "Some Devil," and gave a command performance for Her Majesty the Queen. "Zephyr In The Confetti Factory," the second of his three solo albums to date, won "Best World Traditional Song" in the 2007 Independent Music Awards Vox Populi. Laval tours full-time throughout the U.S. and Scotland with over 100 engagements per year. He is an active educator, producer, and composer and is currently on faculty of The Swannanoa Gathering, a summer institute for traditional music and arts.
