Beerthoven Concert Series: Ghost in the Machine
Online sales end at 2pm but there are still tickets left at the door!
This February the Austin-based ensemble Hear No Evil will clink mugs with fans of Beerthoven as they push the boundaries of their instruments in this program of classics and moderns; Ghost in the Machine.
Music will include the recently-composed "Tight Sweater" by Marc Mellits, Beethoven's "Ghost" Trio for piano, violin, and cello, Music in Similar Motion by Philip Glass, and Jennifer Higdon's "Zaka." Unifying the program is a focus on active, mechanical, and psychological meaning found in music from Beethoven's time and onward.
As always, beer, pretzels, and other refreshments will be served at no extra cost!
Beerthoven events are family-friendly; children are welcome! Our servers are TABC certified and will not serve alcohol to minors.
Performing Ensemble Bio:
Hear No Evil is a sextet dedicated to continuing the tradition of collaborating closely with living composers to bring attention and awareness to modern music. The core ensemble includes James Burch (cello), Shih-Yen Chen (clarinet), Marley Eder (flute), Monica Kang (piano), and Cory Fica (percussion).
As a vehicle of promoting the music of our time, Hear No Evil has established a vibrant relationship with local composers, leading to premieres of over 15 works last year by composers living in Austin and members of the University of Texas Butler School of Music community. Through performances in unorthodox venues far removed from classical tradition, Hear No Evil is actively engaged with disseminating the bizarre and wonderful sounds of contemporary music throughout the greater Austin area.
