Words and Music
The award-winning Marin School of the Arts Theatre Department will perform a mix of their recent works in an evenings entertainment WORDS & MUSIC. Directed by Rodney Franz, the production runs the gamut from comedy to tragedy, including monologues, scene work, poetry, song and dance. William Shakespeare, Edgar Lee Masters, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick are some of the authors featured. Devin Parker Sullivan assistant directs and choreographs.
Scenes from Steven Dietzs DRACULA, based on the novel by Bram Stoker, highlight the evening. DRACULA is one of the popular authors most produced works. Adding to the suspense of the story, Stoker's major plot points are not presented in chronological order. Dietz play is cinematic, bending time and landscape, to create a gothic world of dangerous dynamics. His version is not campy, though the character Renfield provides comic relief. Dietz emulates Stoker's use of language, and incorporates fragments of Stoker's original dialogue, both in and out of its original context.
WORDS & MUSIC opens Friday, January 20, at 7:00 pm in the Performing Arts Center at Marin School of the Arts, 625 Arthur Street, Novato.
