Two Friends Music Magic
Syrinx Concerts is thrilled to present this exciting programming within its 2016-17 five concert season. On February 5, Syrinx will welcome composer/pianist Walter Buczynski and his friend pianist Richard Herriott. They will be performing a program that includes works by Chopin, Albeniz, Ravel, Turina and Walter Buczynski.  Concert is at 3pm. the Heliconian Hall 35 Hazelton Ave.  Toronto  

Walter Buczynski, piano is well known as a composer and pianist.  He studied with Earl Moss and in Paris with Nadia Boulanger. He was the first Canadian to enter the Chopin International Piano competition. Buczynski won first prize in CAPAC's composition competition (1954) with his Piano Trio and in 1955 made his orchestral debut with the Toronto Symphony, playing Chopin's Concerto in F minor.  His works have been performed by such leading orchestras as the Toronto Symphony, MontrĂ©al Symphony, CBC Vancouver Orchestra, Hamilton Philharmonic and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. His chamber works have been performed by the Purcell String Quartet, Lyric Arts Trio, Canadian Brass and York Winds and such soloists as Antonin Kubalek, Mark Dubois, Victor Danchenko, Vladimir Orloff, and Robert Aitken.
In 1977 he received the Queen Elizabeth medal for achievement and development of Canadian culture. In 1992 Walter Buczynski received the Governor Generals 125th Commemorative medal. In 2008 the Polish Government bestowed on him the Gloria Artis medal for his musical achievement and body of work.


Richard Herriott, piano was born in Singapore, spent his early childhood in England and in 1967, the Herriott Family immigrated to Canada.  In 1976, he made his Recital Debut for CBC RADIO establishing a relationship with CBC that lasted until his return to England in 1990.
Herriott has given concerts in 16 Countries including France, Germany, Ukraine, Japan and China. He has also conducted several orchestras and choirs in England, and has earned a reputation for being one of the world's leading Musicians in Music for Dance. At the invitation of Christopher Gable, he served as Company/ Orchestral Pianist for Northern Ballet Theatre from 1996 until his return back to Canada in 2012. Herriott has a firm commitment to the furtherance of New Music and has premiered several works by Philip Feeney and Walter Buczynski.  In April 2017 he will premiere his own Piano Concerto " The Newfie Bullet " with Orchestra Toronto under Maestro Kevin Mallon. Richard Herriott is Founding Artistic Director of Music for Autism.


At the end of each concert we invite the audience to a reception with the musicians.
