Word for Word presents: Stories from Sonoma Mountain
Word for Word is pleased to present Stories from Sonoma Mountain by Greg Sarris, a special show geared toward children 6-11 and based on two stories by Native American author Greg Sarris. Sarris was inspired the folktales of his Pomo and Miwok ancestors, native to the land that is now Sonoma County.
This lively show features vibrant characters, infectious singing and dancing, and stunning masks all inspired by Pomo and Miwok culture. Kids will be captivated with Word for Word's storytelling, all the while learning about Indian cultures of California and the deep respect for the natural world that they hold sacred.
This show is based on Sarris' stories "How Tom Smith Caused the 1906 Earthquake" (originally developed for Word for Word Youth Arts School and Library Tour) and "Waterbug Walks Away with Copeland Creek," from his 16-story cycle How a Mountain Was Made.
The performance on October 26th will include a special Halloween activity.
