An Evening of Bosnian Sevdah & Dance
Sevdah is the traditional music genre of urban town centers of old Bosnia and Herzegovina. For the past 33 years Mirsad Jarovic has been one of the best interpreters of folk music from Bosnia. Born in Sarajevo, he has lived for the past 15 years in St. Louis. In Sarajevo he performed traditional Bosnian Sevdah on Radio-Television Sarajevo. His song, Dva su srca u Bosanca, won an award at festival "Ilidza 88". For festival "Zavicajne pjesme" Velika Kladusa 2011 he won first place with his song, Znaju godine. This year at the same festival, he had a big sucess with his song, Sine jedine. His band includes: Almir Hodzic - accordion, Halil Mekic Ceja - guitar, and Fekret Skopljak - drums. Bay Area singers Muhammed Kocan, Rasima Alisic Klisturic, and Hajrudin Hajric will join him on stage. The Bosnian dance ensemble, Mladost Bosne, will perform. There will be traditional food and dancing
