Rice Culture Art Show & Rice Tasting and Plantation Dinner
The evening begins at Heirloom Book Company with an Art Show and Rice Culture Project presentation by Jonathan Green, a sampling of rice dishes prepared by Allouette Smalls showcasing her heirloom family recipes and a bar featuring cocktails with colonially inspired ingredients combined with three innovative flavors of Enlightened Grain Vodka.
As the sun sets amble up King Street to the Charleston Library Society for a four course plantation dinner and a program by Middleton Place's historic interpreter, Robert Sherman. Sip on Colonial Punch and nibble on cheese straws as Mr. Sherman shares stories, artifacts and historical revelations about the process planters used to cultivate rice, the people upon whom rice cultivation depended and the rich economy they worked together to create.
Find your place at the family-style table to share stories and to dine on the freshest and finest from local fields and farms. Then, as the evening wanes, relax in the candle light with cordial and chocolate to process with new knowledge and broader insight a deeper appreciation of the art, culture and talent of our African brothers and sisters.
