Pedro Infante Y La Suegra Triunfante
General Information: The play is part two of a planned trilogy. Each play is presented in Spanish, with English supertitles, and celebrates the music of a specific region of Latin America. The first, CUMBIA DE MI CORAZÓN, focused on the classic rhythms of Colombia, and was presented at the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts of Los Angeles in 2010. The present work draws from the eternally popular hits of the great Mexican crooner and cultural icon, Pedro Infante. The third will be based on Cuban melodies of the 40s and 50s.
Synopsis: Five characters accompany the protagonist, Doña Francisca on her rambunctious quest for a place to call her own. Feeling trapped in the U.S., where she lives with her daughter, Abuelita Pancha longs to return home to her México lindo y querido. Trying to escape, she ends up in a curious limbo where she meets a certain popular singer she adored in her youth. Could he be the one to liberate her from her doldrums, and show her the way home? Ahí viene Pedro Infante!
