Referee, NSO and Skater Bootcamp
Wiltshire Roller Derby are excited to be hosting a Skater, Referee and NSO Bootcamp coached by none other than Rosie Peacock, Funk as Puck and Yoshi!
SKATER BOOTCAMP Rosie is a current national team skater and coach for women's Team Scotland and 2016 men's Team Scotland coach. She coaches from minimum skills to international level Roller Derby across the globe. Ever heard of laser tits or butt eyes? You soon will!
This bootcamp will be focussing on blocking positioning, skills and drills, some jamming/blammer footwork and building and breaking wall. Rosie will also incorporate some time off skates to talk about leadership, benching and mental strength. Suitable for mixed gender and intermediate skaters.
REFEREE BOOTCAMP Funk is a veteran referee with nearly 5 years of experience including top-level international tournaments and the Men's Roller Derby World Cup. Safe, fair and fun is his maxim!
This bootcamp will be based around the basics of refereeing Roller Derby; signals, rules 101, effective hand and verbal communication, skate skills, proper positioning, and the philosophy of refereeing. You must bring a referee top for this.
NSO BOOTCAMP Yoshi has been NSOing since 2009, having started in the United States and continuing here in the UK. He's been a Divisional Head NSO for both the Heartlands Tournament and British Championships, as well as NSOing international tournaments in Wales and Belgium. He likes long walks on the beach, shots of tequila, and winning afterparties.
In this bootcamp, Yoshi will be covering all the NSO basics, explaining each role in detail and tips and tricks to make the roles easier, as well as the changes between the 2015 and 2016 ruleset. He will also be going over verbal cues, hand signals, and general officiating etiquette.
At the end of all this there shall be a scrim where participants of all three bootcamps can come together and put into practice what they have learned in a relaxed and controlled environment.
As there's only one coach to go around per bootcamp, tickets are very limited so set a reminder to avoid disappointment!
VENUE: The Oasis Leisure Centre has changing rooms and showers for those who wish to freshen up afterwards. It has a cafe which sells hot and cold food and beverages should you want anything. The nearest cash point is at Swindon College which is a 5 minute walk from the venue. Should you be travelling by train it is also a 10-15 minute walk depending on your route. There are lots of parking spaces at the Oasis, but as it is a Saturday if it is full you may park in the Swindon College car park for a small fee.
EXTRAS: We will be selling a selection of generic referee, NSO and skater merch during the breaks so bring some pennies along!
