The Hottman Sisters w/ Karen Wheelock & Leopard Hound
The Hottman Sisters are two sisters in a 4 piece band from Omaha, Nebraska, known for their natural harmonies that envelope the room. One sister, Jessica Hottman, plays a Fender electric, cranking out full-throttled hooks and the other sister, Heather Hottman, uses a Novation synth, to give their sound a searing and wavy landscape. All of this compliments the duos powerful harmonies. The Hottman Sisters are backed by Omaha bass player, Jon Ochsner and the jazz stylings of various drummers, (John Evans, Ed Getzlaff). John, Jon, and Ed add a spunky and rhythmic backbone to the sisters earthy, pop songs. What remains at the centerpiece is their vocals, which blend together effortlessly and almost supernaturally. The result is an atmospheric sound that is both hopeful and haunting.
The Hottman Sisters released their first recording titled This Two, on July 8, 2016. The eight song EP summarizes their journey of coming into the Omaha music scene and solidifying their sound. The songs focus heavily on their emotions during this journey and the love they have for their home. The Hottman Sisters were nominated as "Best Indie/Alternative Band for the 2016 year by The Omaha Entertainment Arts and Awards.
This show is one of many on their "My War Tour" which spans most of January 2017. ____________________ Madisons 2015 New Artist of the Year Karen Wheelock burst into the local folk and americana scene in 2013, armed with a guitar and a ukulele. A Wisconsin farm girl from the small town of Delavan, Wheelocks gentle heart and forthright nature are surprisingly disarming to even the most jaded audience.
Romantic at its core, Wheelocks music has a sound all its own, but one could draw connections to A Fine Frenzy, Lisa Loeb, Cat Power with just a hint of the Moldy Peaches' spirit. Hidden within her songwriting is a deep love for the Foo Fighters and other hard rock bands. Wheelock's repertoire ranges from light-hearted ditties to deeply profound ballads; these are clearly the result of personal reflection, the stuff of all good art. ____________________ Leopard Hound chases Death Cat through the pools of misery and beloved trepidation. Little Bird (Mary Hoffman) sings as Honey Bee (Bradley Corso) cries, taking the time trials and documenting them through music. Leopard Hound sounds are derived from every little moment and the dynamic grouping of guitar, violin, and vocals. And furthermore a friendship forged in glass and copper. They utilize only undeniable things and reliable motions as they beckon sounds and respond to one another through a heightened awareness of their emotive being. Leopard hound brings a folk-bluesy tone with dirt and honey.
