Gee's Bend
Winner of 2008 American Association Award. Gee's Bend depicts the turbulent history of African-Americans during the 20h century. It is a story about faith, determination and the resilience of the human spirit. Focusing on a single family in the community of Gee's Bend, Alabama, which is now famous for the beautiful quilts created by the women that grew up there.
These soulful women artists see their quilts hailed by NYT critic as 'some of the most miraculous works of modern art America has produced.' Gospel songs weave in and out of this beautiful 'history -telling' work.
