The Morning After
Left Coast Theatre Co. returns to its roots with the world premiere of The Morning After, an anthology of original LGBTQ shorts by local and national playwrights. Much of our lives are defined by big events: weddings, funerals, breakups, proposals, birthdays, coming out. But sometimes its the morning after that really changes our lives. This collection of shorts showcases the hilarity, the joy, the grief, the angst, and the uncertainty of the morning after the big event.
THE MORNING AFTER is...
"The Proposal" by Neil Higgins | Directed by Erica Andracchio Eric wakes up the morning after being proposed to by his longtime boyfriend. Normally he would be very excited, but he has very little recollection of the evening. Once the hangover wears off, will he be able to piece together what happened?
"One Night Fran and the Morning After" by Adam Szudrich | Directed by Christopher Chase Three very different women go on a date with Fran - but who will she pick the morning after?
"The Morning After Prom" by Richard S. Sargent | Directed by Terry Maloney Haley The tacky dresses. The cheesy music. The unfortunate erections. Everyone remembers their prom. Well, maybe not everyone. And at this school, it's not just the students who like to party.
"King For A Day" by Rita Long | Directed by Geoffrey Malveaux After a psychedelic trip the night before, one lesbian's fantasy is her girlfriend's nightmare. Luckily, their two best gay male friends know when to call bullshit, proving that fantasy is sometimes the very best way to keep things real.
"My Fairy Drag Mothers" by Neil Higgins | Directed by Christian Heppinstall The morning after doing drag for the first time, Sam wakes up to two fairy drag mothers who have magically appeared to help him learn what it means to be a queen. Without their knowing it, they also embody pressures put on gay men by their own community.
"The Morning After Alex Leaves" by Hannah Vaughn | Directed by Allie Moss Alex has gone away to college leaving nothing but an emotional void in her mothers' lives. But the morning after Alex's first night away, empty-nesters Lori and Sandy attempt to cope with this new separation in very different ways.
"The Morning After My Family Fell Apart (A musical)" by Jen Coogan | Directed by ShawnJ West Mark's conservative parents have just discovered he is gay. Not knowing how to cope with this, they consider sending Mark to Camp Conversion - a conversion therapy themed summer camp. But every decision has consequences.
