Equivocation
Deceit, fabricated political events, government cover-ups, scheming masterminds... and in the midst of it all, one playwright and his small band of players just trying to make sense of it all. If it sounds like present day woes that's because we just never seem to learn from history!
The time is 1606, King James is on the English throne, and Guy Fawkes and his band of plotters has just attempted to blow up Parliament while the King was in session. Or did he? This is the official version of the event that is presented to Master William Shagspeare, which he is charged with turning into a play so that the public will know the "truth" of the plot. But what IS the truth? As "Shag" attempts to piece together the story in an effort to fulfill his commission he discovers the dark secrets and misinformation behind the event.
The Strange Bedfellows take on this modern text about the ins and outs of political intrigue in a post-Elizabethan era. Fast-paced and dramatic, it is sure to provoke many questions for Shakespeare fans as well as simply entertain.
