THE ACTOR'S SESSIONS - JORDAN LAGE
Jordan Lage is a founding member of the Atlantic Theater Company in New York City, and has been on faculty at the Atlantic Acting School there since 1990. He has taught Script Analysis, Repetition/Moment-to-Moment, On-Camera, and Writing Performance Workshop (Sketch Comedy) classes in both the Undergraduate NYU program as well as the Part-Time program at Atlantic. Twice a year, he conducts an immersive workshop, his Master Class in Acting the Plays of David Mamet, at the Atlantic School.
As an actor, he has performed extensively in theater (Broadway, Off-Broadway, & regionally), film, television, and on the radio. Jordan currently recurs on two television shows, NBC's MADAM SECRETARY and Hulu's THE PATH, and this December stars as corporate raider Lawrence Garfinkle in the Long Wharf Theatre (New Haven, CT) stage production of Jerry Sterner's 1980s classic OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY.
Jordan has acted in over 100 productions with the Atlantic Theater Company and has performed in numerous productions of David Mamet's plays including GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, SPEED-THE-PLOW, AMERICAN BUFFALO, and RACE. He will be seen in the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright's newest work THE PENITENT in January 2017 in New York City. Mamet films he has appeared in include HOMICIDE, THE SPANISH PRISONER, STATE AND MAIN, and THE WATER ENGINE. Jordan is the recipient of a Drama Desk Award, a Barrymore Award, and has been nominated for Drama Desk, AUDelco, and Connecticut Critics Circle Awards for his work. Jordan studied acting under playwright David Mamet and actor William H. Macy during his undergraduate years at New York University, and is proud to be passing on the craft he learned from them to current students at the Atlantic Acting School. In this workshop Jordan will guide participants through an array of scene study exercises that explore the similarities and differences of acting for theatre and for film. Starting with the three hours on the Friday night, Jordan will introduce the participants to the concepts and discuss the differences between the two mediums. The students will have prepared (learned their lines and analysed) a scene with a pre-appointed scene partner. Each scene will be given time in front of the class, working their scene for a stage audience and then adapting it for camera. On the Sunday afternoon, participants will perform their scenes in front of the camera, and at the end of the day, all scenes will be performed live, and then watched on camera. The final hour of class will be a discussion based on the experience of the participants to compare and contrast the experience of preparing the same scene for the different mediums. Jordans theory is that acting is acting is acting. However its the little adjustments that can be made that can create a great performance on stage or in front of the camera. These will be explored and experimented with. All students will be offered a DVD of their scene to take home with them at the end of the weekend.
