Janet Aisawa: THEM
Thursday, June 29 at 8pm Friday, June 30 at 8pm Saturday, July 1 at 8pm
Them is a multi-media performance piece based on interviews from Japanese Americans who were interned in camps in the United States during World War II and who were affected by racism, group thinking, murder, and hysteria. It tells the story of these American citizens becoming The Other, when the Constitution is disregarded, and I and You become Them. Layering video, sound scores from the US naturalization test, government reports, and interviews of the internees with original music and movement, "Them" tells this shameful chapter in American history in the words of the people who were there in hopes that we do not repeat our mistakes.
University Settlement participants and staff attend for free. Online ticket sales end 1 hour prior to show. Unless sold out, tickets are available at the door.
