A tiny rural community hovers between May 2017 and Industrial Age England. Technological advances fragment the townspeople's consciousness - the poor grow poorer, the wealthy grow more self-absorbed, and women vacillate between roles as subject and object. Scholars, doctors and online sex workers seek public validation while bemoaning its correlative loss of privacy. A young girl turns to astrology for an answer to her moral dilemma, and, as the local radio anchor warns, catastrophe looms.
