Shes writing a memoir called Miss Ex-Yugoslavia, about coming of age as Yugoslavia dies, moving to Australia and embracing her identity as a perpetual fish out of water, featuring benevolent dictators, beauty queens, and everything in between (Atria Books). You can find her on Twitter, @sstefanovic
MUSICIAN:
Amalia Watty
Amalias irresistible bluesy-jazz-pop-soul sounds might remind you of Billie Holiday or Pharrell Williams, but she is a rising star with a style all her own. Refinery 29 named her one of the 8 New York Artists Who Could be the Next Madonna. She has performed at The Blue Note, US Open, The Bitter End, Live From Oz at The Hudson Hotel, Rockwood Music Hall, The Soho House in West Hollywood and more.
She hails from Anguilla in the Caribbean and grew up climbing cedar trees and roaming the forests singing as she gathered lemongrass leaves for bush tea. LA-based producer/songwriter Jamie Houston (who has worked with Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Steven Tyler, Carlos Santana) helped Amalia produce her first single, Cry Sometimes. Her tender beauty will take your breath away.
