OP Backstage: Navigating the Journey of Flight
NextGen, Opera Parallèle's young professional group, invites you to meet other young opera lovers age 21-40 and go behind the scenes of Flight, the popular new comic opera based on actual events that explores what it means to be stranded. The program will feature a wine reception and open rehearsal followed by remarks on music and set design from Artistic Director Nicole Paiement and Creative Director Brian Staufenbiel. All attendees will receive a discount code for 20% off tickets to Flight.
Immediately following the NextGen event, join the OP team and head to the Castro Theater to take in a late night film at the Film Noir Festival (with a Flight pop-up performance!). Get your tickets to 'The Sicilian Clan' here: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2725912
Flight revolves around the forced residence of Iranian refugee Mehran Karimi Nasseri at Charles de Gaulle airport from 1988 to 2006. Balancing moments of humor with profundity, Flight examines the many faces of love, including the struggle to re-ignite passion in an aging relationship, healing from the great loss of a loved one, and wondering how to be loved with the changes that come with parenthood. With a first-rate cast and inventive stagecraft, Flight promises an operatic treat that is rich with visual perspective.
Hailed by the San Francisco Chronicles Joshua Kosman as one of the Bay Areas most indispensable artistic assets, Opera Parallèle presents compelling performances of contemporary operas with high musical and dramatic standards, embracing modern aesthetics, creative use of technology, and social relevance as essential to the future of the art form.
