This is Our Youth
Sticks and Stones Theatre presents THIS IS OUR YOUTH Written by: Kenneth Lonergan Directed by: Brett Willis Starring: Carlen Escarraga, Zac Scott and Rachel Renaud
It's sheer relief to celebrate the return of a rambunctious and witty play about wayward teen-agers and post-adolescents that doesn't turn youthful travails into plastic rap." -The new york times
THIS IS OUR YOUTH follows forty-eight hours in the lives of three very lost young souls in the big city at the dawn of the Reagan Era: Warren Straub (Carlen Escarraga), a dejected nineteen-year-old who steals fifteen thousand dollars from his abusive lingerie-tycoon father; Dennis Ziegler (Zac Scott), the charismatic domineering drug-dealing friend who helps him put the money to good use; and Jessica Goldman (Rachel Renaud), the anxiously insightful young woman Warren yearns for. Funny, painful, and compassionate, THIS IS OUR YOUTH is a living snapshot of the moment between adolescence and adulthood.
Since its initial Broadway production This Is Our Youth has been revived several times, with actors such as Mark Ruffalo, Michael Cera and Casey Affleck playing Warren, Kieran Culkan, Matt Damon and Colin hanks all taking a turn as Dennis as well as Anna Paquin as Jessica, it has had a longevity due to its ability to continue to both challenge and resonate with actors and audiences alike. The play seems to have an ability to consistently impact no matter how much the times change.
About Sticks and Stones Theatre Sticks and Stones Theatre is a new collective (this is our first show) formed by three Studio 58 grads that were looking for opportunities to practice their craft, and decided to make their own. Sticks and Stones Theatre is young, and inexperienced at producing theatre, however we truly believe in the mandate that to learn how to produce theatre, you have to produce some theatre, so we are out here doing our best to learn on the fly. Advice and feedback about how we could improve is welcomed and appreciated.
