Traveling Through Time at LA Museums
Students will trace the history of art through informal discussions and art activities at LA museums with Maite Gomez-Rejon of ArtBites.
Friday 2/17: Daily Life in Ancient Greece and Rome at the Getty Villa Time travel to ancient Greece and Rome and discover the people's myths, gods, heroes, legends, and daily lives and participate in a hands-on activity. (The group will meet at the museum entrance.)
Friday 3/31: The Middle Ages and Italian Renaissance at the Getty Center Discover what life was like in Europe after the Roman Empire through the exciting Italian Renaissance through paintings and decorative arts. (The group will meet at the museum entrance.)
Friday 4/14: The French Court to Revolution at the Getty Center Travel to 17th century France to see how royalty lived and note how their extravagant lifestyle led to a revolution. (The group will meet at the museum entrance.)
about Maite Gomez-Rejón: Maite has a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Grande Diplome from the French Culinary Institute in New York City. Since 1995 Maite has worked in the education departments of such renowned museums as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Getty Villa, and has worked as a private chef and caterer. In 2007, Maite founded ArtBites, art and culinary history combined with hands-on cooking instruction, which she teaches at museums across the country. Maite has been a guest on the Today Show, featured in Food & Wine magazine and interviewed on NPRs Splendid Table. Her blog, Cooking Art History, appears in The Huffington Post.
