Teach a Kid to Fish: A Dinner at 18 Reasons in Support of its Youth Programming

Please join us for a meal and conversation to support 18 Reasons youth programming cooked by Bi-Rite's Sam Mogannam and Delfina's Craig Stoll.

When: Wednesday, October 17, 2012; 7 p.m.
Where: 18 Reasons (3674 18th St, San Francisco, CA 94110)
Tickets: $250-1,000. Seating limited to 26 people.
Supporters who donate $5,000 to this event will receive an additional private dinner for 10 cooked by Sam Mogannam at 18 Reasons.

18 Reasons has served local youth for the past two years through highly successful programs that teach vital cooking skills, encourage healthy eating habits, and provide career readiness. Seeing tremendous potential in these programs, we seek to expand their depth and reach, and we're hoping you can help us do just that.

Please join us on Wednesday, October 17 at 7 p.m. for an engaging conversation and dinner prepared by Bi-Rite Market's Sam Mogannam and Delfina Restaurant's Craig Stoll to support 18 Reasons' youth programming. We hope to empower children to be critical thinkers, provide the tools needed to contribute positively, and to have a healthy relationship with the food they eat.

Ingredients will be sourced from the Bi-Rite Farm and paired with wines selected by Bi-Rite wine buyer Trac Le.

Your participation will directly support 18 Reasons' youth programming, including our healthy eating classes at Hilltop High, culinary career preparation with the Boys and Girls Club, teacher training workshops with Education Outside, youth mentorship with Eat Ur Veggies, gardening and cooking summer camps, and creative writing classes. Your contribution will also support 18 Reasons in expanded programming so we can reach even more youth in our community.

Please join us and be part of our dream of impacting the lives of our kids.

"In this class I learned some ways to make healthier choices for my son and me. I learned that healthy food is also delicious. Thank you for coming to our school and teaching us these things. They are very helpful."  Patricia, Hilltop High student and teen mother.

"I loved the cooking class! I liked that the class was based around having healthy eating habits, not just for you but our children too.."  Ynessa Flores, Hilltop High student and teen mother

"Now I have an adult I can trust and someone I can talk to if I'm feeling sad or depressed."  Makda, graduate of 18 Reasons and Eat Ur Veggies mentorship program, part of the incoming class at Pitzer College in Southern California

"I feel so empowered to cook almost anything with 26 or more kids in the garden now. Thank You for helping create such a wonderful vision for educating children for the future." Heather White Clapp, Cooking the Common Core attendee, garden educator in the SF Unified School District.
