Our 2012 / 2013 Season
FALL 2012 "Christmas Belles" Written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope & Jamie Wooten Directed by Angela Bell and Cindy Peterson Good Produced by Cyndy Dwyer
Family Comedy Runs October 18 to November 17, 2012 A church Christmas pageant spins comically out of control in this Southern farce about squabbling sisters, family secrets, a surly Santa, a vengeful sheep and a reluctant Elvis impersonator. It's Christmas-time in the small fictional town of Fayro, Texas, and the Futrelle Sisters Frankie, Twink and Honey Raye are not exactly in a festive mood. But 'the show must go on', and despite a cast and crew made up of town folk who create problem after problem, and the revelation of a family secret that has been carefully guarded for decades, the feuding sisters find a way to pull together in order to present a Christmas program the citizens of Fayro will never forget. Their hilarious holiday journey through a misadventure-filled Christmas Eve is guaranteed to bring joy to your world!
WINTER 2013 "Jim & Shorty" Written by Alex Poch-Goldin Directed by Marko Hohlbein
Dramatic Comedy Runs January 17 to February 16, 2013 It's morning in the city. Shorty rolls cigarettes on a bench while Jim looks for change in phone boxes. Big Tom is already drunk. As these men on the fringes of society draw us into their world, they trade stories about donuts and smokes, shelters and welfare. Acts of kindness follow acts of selfishness and humour keeps pace with despair. We're made to feel privy to the men's dreams and exposed to their flaws: we're moved by their common dilemma. But it's early yet. It's election day, and an Aborifinal is running for office. Anything can happen Filled with abundant humour and sharp insight, life on the street is given a human face as three lonely men fumble to make a connection.
SPRING 2013 "God of Carnage" Written by Yasmina Reza Directed by Helen Embury Produced by Leslie Gaudette
Comedy Runs April 18 to May 18, 2013 This lively play takes place during a disastrous meeting between two couples whose sons have been involved in a schoolyard brawl. In the beginning, the couples are civilized but the encounter quickly disintegrates into a messy, and hilarious, four-way blowout. All of the etiquette barriers are discarded in this wickedly funny comedy of ill manners and pseudo sophistication in a series of alcohol fueled, profanity spouting skirmishes and assaults. As the polite masks fall away, accusations fly and allegiances switch back and forth. It's chaotic, it's fun and it's full of insights into our human nature. God of Carnage will be Langley Players' entry into the 2013 Fraser Valley Zone Festival.
