Chinatown Business Luncheon Featuring Theresa Mah, State Representative in the 2nd District of the Illinois State Legislature
Join the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at MingHin Cuisine, to hear from our invited speaker and special guest, Dr. Theresa Mah. She is the newly-elected State Representative in the 2nd District of the Illinois State Legislature, where Chicago's Chinatown is located.
Dr. Theresa Mah is a former college professor with a Ph.D. in modern US history, and Theresa taught for more than 15 years at the college level. She also served as a senior advisor in former Governor Pat Quinn's administration, where she worked to address issues facing Illinois' Asian American communities. She grew up in San Francisco, where her family operated several small businesses. Locally, she has worked as a community organizer and policy advocate in Chicago's Chinatown and has developed a deep understanding of the interdependence between the business community, social services and government in the success of the community.
Also featured during the luncheon will be the presentation of donations from Chinatown Chamber of Commerce's 2016 Chicago Dragon Boat Race for Literacy which help support local literacy programs. Recipients: John C. Haines Elementary School, Robert Healy Elementary School, Project: VISION, Pui Tak Christian School, Mark Sheridan Math & Science Academy, SitStayRead, St. Therese Chinese Catholic School and James Ward Elementary School
