The Taylor O'Donnell Quartet with jazz vocalists Alicia Phelps and Emma Duplissie-Cyr
Contemporary vocalist Taylor ODonnell comes to the Dance Hall with her jazz trio and two unique jazz vocalists to celebrate the Holiday Season. This ensemble will perform an array of inventively arranged Christmas favorites, influenced by bands such as the Emmylou Harris Trio, the Andrews Sisters, and the Boswell Sisters. Alicia Phelps and Emma Duplissie-Cyr are up-and-coming jazz vocalists based in the Portland area with wildly contrasting instruments. Emmas sweet soprano and the rich, no-nonsense voice of Alicia Phelps bring a classic vocal jazz sound to the Dance Hall together with O'Donnell's quartet. Together in three-part harmony, the vocalists will delve into holiday jazz standards and hymns suited to the season with Chris Klaxton on piano, Rob Gerry on bass, and Les Harris Jr. on drums.
Taylor O'Donnells vocals are demurely beautiful. They help to crystallize the burrowing, textured sounds of the track with precision, gauging each with tempered expertise. -Liz Choi. Earmilk Online
Taylor had all the melodies, vocal turns and intervals that makes Mitchell's songs so alluring and challenging to sing. And, while the performances were so true to the original performances by Mitchell, Taylor owned the songs in her own right last night with both her personal convictions to the lyrics and an unabashed tribute to the Mistress of Confessional Songs. - Audience Member
O'Donnell sings with demanding prowess and originality. Her voice is a refined instrument, demonstrating a unique mixture of textures and sounds. Review of August 2014 performance at the Music Hall Loft.
