Celebrations: An African Odyssey - In Concert
Playwright/composer wrote Celebrations: An African Odyssey in 1979 in San Diego, CA. It was performed for more that 20 years in California, New York, Winston-Salem, Detriot, Providence and Boston. Celebrations is the story of Jaharri, an African princess coming of age in her homeland when she is kidnapped and sold into slavery. But in the New World plantation on Christmas day, she finds that the humanity and courage of her people has survived even the Middle passage. Jaharri draws strength from her new family and with their help, escapes and returns home.
Celebrations uses element of storytelling, African rhythms, traditional and gospel music to celebrate the greatness of the human spirit.
