A night of songs, loops and guitars from three of the most energetic, creative and unique performers in town. Kristen Ford, Jennee Halstead and Audrey Ryan grace the carpets of the Lizard Lounge tonight.
Kristen Ford delivers a high energy set of indie rock. She lives for live performance, her passion and charisma shining forth on stage both solo or with her band. Her hooks will linger in your mind, blending genres from folk to reggae to rock. Where she's from is a long story. Let's just say Boston was home for five years, and she's currently on the road full time, which feels just as homey as anywhere.
Audrey Ryan mostly performs solo shows as a one-man-band multi- instrumentalist using an electric guitar, accordion, ukulele, banjo, vibraphone, glockenspeil, drums, and a loop station. Basically she loops parts and plays the drums and sings over them. Somewhat hard to explain, but easy to understand once you see it live!
If you detect something expansive and mysterious in the music of Jenee Halstead, a freedom that owes no debt to place and time or even genre you understand where shes coming from. And where shes headed ... deeper into the essence of song. "On 'Edge Of The World' she largely maintains the indie-americana nature of her previous release but swaps the avant-garde side of it for a much more accessible, rich, moody and beautifully produced sound. Singing better than ever, Halstead impresses from beginning to end with five glorious songs that are bold (opener Shovel with its great refrain: I wont put the shovel down, til youre six feet under the cold, hard ground), sexy (Taste Me), sensual (the title track), or just plain deeply moving (the piano ballad Sophia). If there is one drawback to Edge Of The World its that its only an ep, although you have to search really hard to find a record this year that gives you five such marvelous songs one after another.
