The Hands Free Meets Sylvie Courvoisier/Mark Feldman Duo
New York based acoustic quartet The Hands Free inhabits a borderless region somewhere between bluegrass and free improvisation. Comprised of James Moore (guitar/banjo), Caroline Shaw (violin), Nathan Koci (accordion), and Eleonore Oppenheim (bass), all established performers and composers in their own right, The Hands Free brings together a unique and joyful combination of creative voices.
Sylvie Courvoisier / Mark Feldman Duo Pianist Sylvie Courvoisier and violinist Mark Feldman have been collaborating , for more than 15 years, and their music attests to that in a sense of familiarity without habit, pleasure in private languages that still make sense to outsiders, and the confidence to resolve conflict or leave it simmering.
The brilliant jazz and contemporary music violinist Mark Feldman joined the adventurous Swiss-born pianist. Soon the performers took off in what seemed intense, improvisatory episodes, including eerie piano sounds when Ms. Courvoisier scraped and slapped the strings with her hands. The cheers from the audience were just as enthusiastic after the most mellow piece, an almost obsessively repetitive lapping bass riff in the piano and jazzy ruminations on the violin.
