"Mad Love" and things in between | A play about the impact of mental health on interpersonal relationships and vice-versa.
THE PLAY --------
It's a night like any other. Except for that one phone call.
Become a "fly on the wall" and surreptitiously experience the inner lives of seven women who meet regularly with a relationship coach.
The plot is riveting. The acting is raw. The stories are real. The issues are worth talking about. The mood is funny, mysterious, and intense. The outcome promises to tug at your heart's core and leave you transformed forever.
Immerse yourself in an intimate experience of innovative theatre, at the warehouse-converted-home of a circus troupe in Downtown Oakland. With no fixed boundary between the cast and the audience discover who's also living your mad love.
EACH NIGHT A COMMUNITY EVENT AFTER THE PLAY ------------------------------------------- Siren is all about the community. We aim to engage audience members in dialogues, discussions, creativity, dancing, music and other expressive forms to build communities of wellness. We invite you to stay back after the play for a special community event each night (FREE OF COURSE!). SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING EACH NIGHT AT http://sirentheatre.org/show.html
HOW THE PLAY WAS CREATED ------------------------- Twenty-five women from around the country submitted their stories about the impact of their mental wellness on their interpersonal relationships, and vice-versa. Ten women threaded together these personal life stories to write the script for this groundbreaking "reality-based theatre". The 30 all-women cast and crew of "Mad Love" are passionately collaborating 3 days a week for over 6 weeks, as we speak. Through tears and laughter, they are giving shape to this play to reflect the delights and dilemmas of relationships involving love, madness and faces in between. Six nights this October, they will expose their exploration for you to witness.
THE PROJECT ----------- "Mad Love," is a part of a yearlong project launched by Siren called MWWA (Mental Wellness for Women through Arts). The first process theatre production "Playing with Fear" staged in July 2012 at CounterPULSE in San Francisco, was the creation of 30 women coming out with their individual fears and hopes.
"Mad Love" takes the project to a new level by exploring our boundaries. How do our mental wellness issues affect the people we love? And how do our intimate relationships affect our own mental wellness? How do we define and maintain that invisible boundary between the self and the others to start building relationships of wellness and joy? In this groundbreaking reality-based immersion theatre 15 Bay Area Women of diverse race, age, identity, education and careers, come out to answers these questions for themselves and us. The aim of the project is to heal the community, to raise mental health awareness, and to break prejudices through courageous, authentic and collaborative creative work.
