6:30 pm Step I: Intro to Acting with Andre Nelson Ever thought of becoming an actor? Or wondered about the unplumbed emotional depths of your own psyche? Or maybe you just want to get to know your authentic self a little better? If any of those thoughts sound familiar, then our Intro to Acting course is a great place to start! Intro to Acting will help you develop fundamental acting tools: playing an action, living truthfully in imaginary circumstances, and working with a partner. No matter your experience, youll learn the basics of acting in an exciting and safe environment.
6:30 pm Playwriting II: Learning the Ropes with Rebecca Tourino Plays arent simply written; theyre built. It takes more than a great idea and striking language to keep an audience engaged. In order to sustain that connection with the audience, a play must work on a number of levels. In this course, students will examine the structure of several critically-acclaimed plays. Well discuss what fascinates, moves, and inspires us about each work, and how the playwright ties it all together. Through exercises and assignments designed to break through blocks and lively, supportive feedback to keep you on track, youll learn how to structure your script in a way that propels your story forward to a thrilling and satisfying conclusion.
7:15 pm Improvisation with Matt Smith From Saturday Night Live to Almost Live, improvisation can be a fundamental building block for not just making people laugh, but also making people think. Improv is a system of communication, and students in our Improv course will learn the keys to spontaneous storytelling via games, exercises, lecture and open scene work. Youll also learn to be a better listener, trust your own authentic responses, and begin to see failure as a path to success. In other words, youll learn to get out of your own way and find your spontaneous voice. (No experience required).
7:15 pm Stage Combat: Sword and Shield/Longsword with Geof Alm Actor Training focusing on the use of the Sword and Shield, a certifiable theatrical weapons style offered by The Society of American Fight Directors with Longsword emphasis included. Vikings, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, Shakespeare's Histories are many applications of this style!
Freehold's classes are open to students ages 18 years of age and older.
