Join us for a special evening of bluegrass and bluegrass gospel music by the Kevin Prater Band at the University Park United Methodist Church on Tuesday night, March 7.
The Kevin Prater Band (from eastern Kentucky) bases their sound on strong vocal harmonies. Built around high trios, their style is reminiscent of the classic Seldom Scene and 1970's Country Gentlemen performances. They are steeped in the tradition of Gospel music and pride themselves on the acapella hymns and great gospel songs that people have come to enjoy. The band includes classic country in their repertoire and loves bringing old familiar favorites to life. The band's influences include the Osborne Brothers, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Red Allen, and The Stanley Brothers.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the non-profit 501c3 Bluegrass Heritage Foundation. The mission of the Bluegrass Heritage Foundation is to preserve and promote the heritage of bluegrass music in America, with a focus on promoting bluegrass music in Texas. The Foundation seeks to educate the public about this distinctly American form of music with roots in Irish, Scottish, and English traditional music through educational programs and workshops, public performances of bluegrass music, historic preservation efforts, and other similar programs.
