Jacqui Naylor, renowned jazz vocalist with Art Khu, Concert
Upstage and Studio Bob in Port Angeles present acclaimed jazz vocalist Jacqui Naylor, accompanied by pianist and composer Art Khu, on Wednesday, December 7th, 7pm.

"Naylor remains one of the most superbly arresting vocalists around."-JazzTimes. Naylor's recordings have made the top 10 albums of the season in USA Today, Jazziz Magazine and The Washington Post. A full length documentary, A Portrait of Jacqui Naylor, was released in 2012. Her albums are available throughout the United States, Europe and Asia and she tours regularly at esteemed venues - Ronnie Scotts London, Birdland New York, Yoshis Oakland, Snug Harbor New Orleans, Jamboree Barcelona, Jazz Club Istanbul Turkey, Women in Jazz Festival Germany, Reus Jazz Festival Spain, Monterey Jazz Festival, San Francisco Jazz Festival and all Blue Note Clubs in New York, Milan and Japan.

Naylor and Art Khu are masters of bringing genres from different generations and mixing them in fascinating and delightful ways, drawing insight and emotion from fascinating arrangements. Naylor christened their signature technique of arranging "Acoustic Smashing." She sings the melody and lyrics of a jazz standard while the band plays a pop classic or vice versa. In superb jazz style, you'll listen to jazz standards masterfully synced with rock classics, or stunning pop lyrics over jazz standard arrangements.

"Jacqui's 'acoustic smashing' of the great American songbook with the classic rock and roll songbook brings both forms to life in a way never heard before.  -Ken Dashow Q-104

"The words are to Gershwin's "Summertime," but the music is Gregg Allman's Whipping Post. Naylor has the chops and sensitivity to pull it off." -NY Magazine.

Jacqui Naylor has brought new twists to the notion of melding jazz and pop tunes - without high-tech assistance.  National Public Radio (NPR)

The process, which Ms. Naylor calls "acoustic smashing," marked a turning point in her career.  -Wall Street Journal

"Jacqui has a sumptuous voice, knack for scratchiness, and an ability to sweeten those bluesy bent notes.  -Village Voice
