Fly Me to the Moon/A Drama Dock Fundraiser
Now is the chance to knock away the blues after the holidays to the amazing music of Frank Sinatra, sung and danced by your local neighbors in "Fly me to the Moon", a fundraiser for Drama Dock. The shows are the first weekend in January after the holidays (January 7th and 8th).
Sinatra is widely-acknowledged as one of the best standard singers of all time. He also danced in a number of his movies earlier in his career. The original production showcases island singers, musicians and dancers as they present the old standards of Frank Sinatra. The Director and Choreographer is Elise Ericksen.
"I have loved listening to Frank Sinatra's music over the years and am delighted to have the opportunity to set original choreography to some of my favorite tunes. For the past five years, I worked with PDX Dance Collective choreographing and dancing many styles of dance including contemporary, ballet, modern and musical theater dance. All of these styles, plus some ballroom will be present in the dances for the show. I am thrilled to help raise money for Drama Dock, which I participated in when I was just a kid growing up on Vashon and turning out for shows with my parents (the late Rev. John Ericksen and Marita Ericksen)."
Many island singers will lend their voices to the production including, Steven Denlinger, Marita Ericksen, Martin Feveyear, Shannon Flora, Lauri Hennessey, Gretchen Neffenger and Michael Shook. Dancers include Sarah Cummings White, Emmi Sarkola, Lori Spears, Erica Wagner and guest dancers Katelyn Kollinzas, Rachael Singer and Ismael Sonanes. John de Groen, Adrienne Mildon and Xavier Ajeto will lend both their voices and dancing talent to the show.
"I have loved Frank since I was 12 years old," said ardent admirer/cast member Lauri Hennessey, who has been in a number of Drama Dock shows. "Of all the singing I've done, Sinatra's kind of jazz has always been my favorite. This fundraiser is a dream come true and a great way to give back to Drama Dock."
In addition to the many fabulous dancers and singers, there will also be a small group of musicians, including exemplary pianist Evan Stults.
Some favorite songs in this review include "Let's Fall In Love", "The Way You Look Tonight", "New York, New York" and of course "Fly Me To The Moon", just to name a few. Come enjoy the start of the new year with song, dance and merriment.
Fly Me To The Moon, presented by Drama Dock, will have two shows only, January 7 at 7:00 p.m. and January 8 at 3:00 p.m. Both shows are at Vashon High School Theatre.
