Inside the piano, outside the box, a salon with pianist Barbara Lieurance
Greater Boston House Concerts presents pianist Barbara Lieurance in an exciting salon of music for solo piano.
Combining daring programming with an engaging performance style, Barbara Lieurance brings pianistic virtuosity of an entirely new kind to the Salon. In the program, "Inside the piano, outside the box", Ms. Lieurance champions the compositional tour-de-force "Rhapsodies" by C. Curtis-Smith the first piece to ever be written for bowed piano along with a new commission inspired by the Rhapsodies by Canadian composer John Oliver. Other music includes the jazzy Russian virtuosity of Gubaidulina and the beautiful melodies of Brahms.

About Barbara Lieurance, piano
The Metroland of New York writes that Ms. Lieurance "wowed audiences" and the Main Sunday Telegram notes that "at the end of the concert, Ms. Lieurance had. . . the audience standing." Known for her innovative performances and her daring programming, Ms. Lieurance brings new music to concerts halls around the United States and Europe. Last season Ms. Lieurance was invited to Switzerland to perform solo piano works of Meinrad Schutter, in a festival celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth. A guest artist for the Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, Ms. Lieurance performed two tours with their Keys to Education Program, bringing avant-garde music to hundreds of schoolchildren in Michigan. Ms Lieurance is also a founding member of the new music trio Antares Project.

Founded in 2011 by classical guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan, Greater Boston House Concerts is quietly reestablishing the excitement and intimacy of classical music within the community in a Salon environment. With nine concerts in our first season from musicians and poets as far away as Italy and Austria, Greater Boston House Concerts brings high-quality classical and contemporary music by some of the brightest and daring of artists, out of the concert hall and into communities.

Concerts are 1-1.5+ in length. Each concert is followed by a 10 minute Question & Answer hosted by the Director with the Artists, and a meet-the-artist reception. Audience members are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages and/or contribute to the reception.
